Smarter Search was founded by Tom Coumans after more than twenty years in recruitment, interim solutions and executive search.
Before starting Smarter Search, Tom built and led specialist search teams, advised organizations on senior appointments across sectors, and developed propositions focused on executive hiring, interim management and senior professional talent.
That experience led to a clear conviction: high-stakes hiring is not simply about finding candidates. It is about understanding the market, calibrating expectations, assessing fit with discipline, aligning stakeholders and making decisions that can stand up to scrutiny.
Alongside his work in executive search, Tom has served as an elected city councillor in Amstelveen, including as spokesperson for finance, ICT, services and economic affairs and as a member of the audit committee. That public governance experience reinforces the importance of accountability, careful decision-making and defensible outcomes.
